Tokyo Olympics has these 15 Indian shooters gearing up to their targets.

15 indian shooters who qualified for the olympics

With the onset of the Olympic season, while everyone is eagerly waiting for the list of players who would represent the country, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced a 15-member shooting contingent for Tokyo Olympics. There's also another reason for the NRAI to display pride while announcing the list. The number of qualifiers increased from 12 in 2016 to 15 in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Here is the list of 15 Indian shooters whose performance at the Olympics is looked up with high expectations and the shooters themselves are confident enough that they are going to shoot the target. Take a look at the Indian shooters who would represent the country in the Olympic games scheduled from 24th July to 8th August, 2021. 

Anjum Moudgil: 

Anjum Moudgil who was born on 5th January 1994 is from Chandigarh and represents Punjab in the Indian 10m Women's Air Rifle. She finished 9th in the 2016 World Cup held in Munich and bagged a silver medal in World University Championship. She bagged gold in the South Asian Games and won the silver medal in 10m Air Rifle Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters. She also won a silver medal in the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) event at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico. In the Commonwealth Games (CWG) she bagged a silver medal. On 1 May 2019, Anjum stood at the world number 2 position in women's 10m Air Rifle ISSF rankings. She was India's No. 1 in Women’s 50m 3P. This brilliant shooter competes in the Tokyo Olympics under the 10m Women's Air Rifle category.

Apurvi Chandela: 

Apurvi Singh Chandela who was born on 4th January 1993 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is an Indian Shooting player who competes in the 10-metre air rifle event. She has won the gold medal in the 2019 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. This world champion is currently ranked number one in 10-metre air rifle shooting. Chandela qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the women's 10m air rifle event and finished at 34th position in the qualification round. At the 2018 Asian Games, teaming with Ravi Kumar for the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event, she won a bronze medal. In 2020, she won a gold medal at a private tournament in Meyton cop, Austria. Chandela also secured a quota spot to participate in the Tokyo Olympics under the 10m Women's Air Rifle category.

Divyansh Singh Panwar: 

1998 born Divyansh is an Indian sport shooter who won a silver medal in the 10-metre air rifle event at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Beijing and secured a quota position for India at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Divyansh won two gold medals at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl. At the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships held in Changwon, Divyansh, along with Shreya Agarwal won bronze in the 10-metre air rifle junior mixed team event. He stood at 12th in the individual 10-meter air rifle event of the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Delhi. He will represent India at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 10m Men's Air Rifle category.

Deepak Kumar: 

Sergeant Deepak Kumar who was born on 5th November 1987 is an Indian sport shooter and an Indian Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). He won the bronze medal at the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event with Mehuli Ghosh. He will be representing India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 10m Men's Air Rifle category.

Tejaswini Sawant: 

Tejaswini Sawant who was born on 12th September 1980 is an Indian shooter from the Maharashtrian city of Kolhapur. In 2006, she won gold medals in Women's 10 m Air Rifle singles and Women's 10 m Air Rifle Pairs events at the Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne. Sawant also won a bronze medal in the 50-metre rifle three positions at the 2009 ISSF World Cup in Munich. In 2018, Tejaswini won Silver at the Women's 50m Rifle Prone Finals. She also won gold at the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Position Finals in the same year. In the 50m Women's Rifle 3 Position category, she will represent India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Sanjeev Rajput: 

Master Chief Petty Officer Sanjeev Rajput is an Arjuna Awardee Indian shooter who hails from Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. He was a retired Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Navy. In 2018, he won the Gold medal in the 50m three positions event at the Gold Coast CWG. In the 2018 Asian Games, he won the silver medal in the men's 50 metres rifle 3 positions category. At the ISSF World Cup held in Rio de Janeiro in 2019, Rajput won the Silver medal. With the podium finish, he obtained a quota for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the 50m Men's Rifle 3 Position, he will represent India in the Olympic games.

Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar: 

Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar is an Indian sport shooter who won the bronze medal in the 50-metre rifle three positions event at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships and secured a quota place for India at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tomar also won the bronze medal at the 2019 Asian Airgun Championships in the junior 10-metre air rifle event. Tomar won the bronze medal in 50-metre rifle three positions at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships in Doha.

Manu Bhaker: 

Manu Bhaker is an Indian Olympian who represented India at the 2018 ISSF World Cup and won two gold medals. She is also the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup. She also won the gold medal in the women's 10 m air pistol event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In all the four Pistol & Rifle ISSF World Cups held in 2019, she won the Gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event with Saurabh Chaudhry as her partner.

Yashaswini Singh Deswal:

Yashaswini Singh Deswal is an Indian sport shooter who won the gold medal in the 10-metre air pistol event at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro and secured a quota position for India at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, and finished sixth in the final of the 10-metre air pistol event. At the 2016 ISSF Junior World Cup, she won silver medals in both the individual event and the team event in Suhl, Germany, and gold in the team event at Qabala, Azerbaijan. At the 2016 South Asian Games, she bagged the gold medal in the team event and the bronze medal in the individual event. At the 2017 ISSF Junior World Championship, she won the gold medal. In she won the gold medal at the 2019 ISSF World Cup held in Rio de Janeiro and made it to the 2020 Summer Olympics by defeating Olena Kostevych, a former Olympic and world champion.

Saurabh Chaudhary: 

Saurabh Chaudhary who will represent India in the 10m Men's Air Pistol category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in 10 m Air Pistol. He thus became the youngest Indian gold medalist at the Asian Games. He is also the only Indian shooter to win a gold medal in ISSF World Championship, ISSF World Cup, Youth Olympic Games, Asian Games and Asian Air Gun Championship. He won gold in the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Argentina. In January 2020, he won 63rd gold at the 63rd National Shooting Championship in men's 10-metre air pistol.

Abhishek Verma

Abhishek Verma is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 10m Men's Air Pistol category. In 2019 Beijing he won a gold medal in the Men's 10-metre air pistol. In 2018 Jakarta Palembang won a bronze medal. He is currently ranked 1 in the 10m Air Pistol category.

Rahi Sarnobat: 

Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat is a female athlete from India who competes in the 25 meters pistol shooting event. She secured her first gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. She is the first woman to win a gold medal in shooting in an Asian Games for India who won the gold at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in the women's 25-meter pistol event. She had won two gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. She has also won gold in the 25 m pistol event at the 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games which were held in India.

Elavenil Valarivan:

Elavenil Valarivan is a sport shooter from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India. She represented India at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup and won a gold medal. She bagged silver in the world University Games in 2019 after which she won Gold at World Junior World Cup Suhl 2019. She stood first at the 2019 ISSF 10-meter Air Rifle World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. She represents India in the 10m Women's Air Rifle category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Angad Vir Singh Bajwa: 

Angad Vir Singh Bajwa is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the skeet discipline. At the 2015 Asian Shooting Championships held in Kuwait City, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the Gold medal in the Men's Skeet Junior Individual Event. He also won the Gold medal at the 2018 Asian Shotgun Championships held in Kuwait City by shooting a World Record of 60/60 in the final round of the Men's Skeet competition. With this, he gifted India her first-ever Gold Medal in the skeet discipline in a continental or world-level tournament. Bajwa won the Bronze Medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples. At the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships, he won Gold in the men's Skeet event. At the 2021 ISSF World Cup held in New Delhi, Bajwa won the Gold medal in Men's Skeet Team Event.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan: 

Mairaj Ahmed Khan is an Indian shooter in the shotgun skeet discipline. In 2016, he bagged silver at ISSF World Cup held in April in Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He is the first-ever Indian athlete to represent India in the SK125 Event during the Rio Olympic Games. He is ranked 10th in the world and 6th in Asia. He has been an international level shooter for over 15 years and won multiple accolades including medals won during the Commonwealth Shooting Championship, Asian Championships, South Asian Federation and National and International Championships. He is all set to represent India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
