EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Born on 24 August 1993, to a celebrity fitness expert, Samir Purohit, Namrata did her Pilates training from Lindsay G. Merrithew. She has completed her Majors in economics at Jai Hind College and her Masters of Science in Sports Management at Loughborough University. She was a national-level squash player and was once ranked #4 in the national under-16 category.

DISCOVERING HER TRUE CALLING

Namrata discovered a passion for Pilates when she fell off a horse at the age of 15. She experienced how Pilates worked like a wonder drug to heal her knee injury magically while a variety of therapies failed to give satisfactory results. She also saw her father achieve a pain-free life despite suffering from a chronic back injury for 30 years, after just four days of Pilates, which eventually led to the formation of The Pilates Studio.

Currently, in her 26th year, Namrata has already trained celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Nargis Fakhri, Neha Dhupia, Lauren Gottlieb, Shibani Dandekar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Elli Avram, Bruna Abdullah and Malaika Arora among others.

She was the official fitness partner to Femina Miss India Organization since 2011 and the official Fitness Partner to Miss Diva during 2013 and 2014. Purohit, along with her father, were official Pilates coaches to the 2014 Mumbai City FC team.

THE MANTRA TO SUCCESS

Namrata believes in her special mantra, KISS-Keep it Safe, Simple and Smart. She believes that people should try different things before settling on a routine because fitness should be fun. She feels it’s important to train with someone who is knowledgeable and certified. A good trainer needs to understand your body type and needs, set realistic goals, and guide you in a safe manner.

WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE

Namrata is very passionate about her workouts. She is a very active person and does Pilates at least 3-4 times a week and altitude training thrice a week. She goes horse riding, plays squash twice a week and takes contemporary and jazz dance classes.

TIPS TO STAY FIT AND FABULOUS

In her book, Namrata encourages couch potatoes and procrastinators to adopt healthy lifestyles. She shares tips to stay fit without stepping out of your comfort zone. She discusses ways to start moving and burning calories by simply going shopping or using the hula hoop at home. She believes these are the basic things one needs to remember to stay focused on the path to fitness:

Be Happy: People tend to stick to something that makes them happy. It pays to work on your strength, flexibility, stability and balance, and most importantly to stay happy mentally.

Feeling fit: Fitness begins with feeling fit. Train three to five times a week depending on the time and intensity of your workout.

Play around: Stay flexible. Do what you love, and a workout will always be interesting!

Buddy up: Buddies help us stay motivated. Find someone around your fitness level, to keep you excited and motivated.

Eat right:  The key to healthy workouts is to eat right. It is not about eating less but about eating right!

Challenge yourself: Challenge yourself to stay focused. Track your progress and keep moving!

Train smart: Focus on getting maximum benefit in minimum time. Explore compound movements which work on multiple muscles at the same time.

Apart from Pilates, which she feels, is here to stay, Namrata expects EMS (Electric Muscle Stimulation) and Core Stix kind of workout practices to grow well. A person needs to choose what works best for themselves. Here’s wishing our young achiever more milestones and success in the years to come.
